Many people have to get their background checked. It may be for employment or licensing purposes, or it may be to volunteer. Whatever the reason, many people know very little about about this process. As defined by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), background checks are actually referred to as a criminal history record check. However, for the purposes of this article, the criminal history checks will be referred to as background checks.

There are two types of checks in the state of Florida, the Level 1 background check, a state-only check, and the Level 2 background check, a state and national-fingerprint check. The national record check is based on fingerprints, and the state record checks can be name-based or fingerprint-based submission.
